Final Audiobook Documentation
When I was given this assignment I was a bit stressed out because I thought I had to listen to a whole audiobook before the due date, I was a bit relieved to find out that wasn’t the case.
When I began building this audiobook I began running into issues that I didn’t think I would. My biggest issue was getting the book to become accessible and convertible for the software being used. Once that was figured out I had run into the issue of my chapters not being split up.
Even though I had gotten my chapters put together I struggled to have the book split up in the book that was uploaded to iTunes. I had tried compressing the files and creating them into a .zip but no matter how many times I had tried splitting it up into different sections I still only ended up with one whole book without any chapters or chapter art in them.
Chapter Art
Once I was on chapter art, I wanted to go for a specific mood. I tried applying textures to my design and failed miserably. I decided to work with textures once I had more time but it was definitely a good thought! Here are the designs that I had come up with for each section.
Although it is very simplistic, I felt like it described the mood of the book very well, the smokey textures and the harsh flames symbolize the death of books and also the character of Guy Montag as his story also being told and falling apart the further the story goes.
It gets more intense as the book goes on the flames get higher and even hotter Guy is really trying to keep things together but everything around him is falling apart and he’s to the point where he needs to escape.
Things have calmed down and the book has turned into ash, Symbolizing that Guy’s life has pretty much been destroyed. Everything that he had believed in has been changed and now he is looking to create a new life as he looks back at everything that has happened. Even though the book is not burning bright I wanted to resemble the fact that the calm has come and Guy is looking to create a better future.
All of these things are what created this audiobook into the final form. I wanted to create a cartoony feel to the book to demonstrate how ridiculous it is but also how intense the book can be, I hope that I was able to convey that through this.
Conclusion
I have a lot more respect for those that need to create Audiobooks and work with metadata, I really liked looking through the info that was updated on the Audiobook and even looked through some examples to see what I could do to improve, I learned a lot about putting a project together and seeing how to create a uniformed story that fits the book well.
